Mental & Behavioral Health Initiatives
The Gretna Public Schools Foundation is proud to work alongside the District to provide students with additional mental and behavioral health support. This is done through a partnership with the Foundation, District, and Complete Wellness.
2025 Gala
The goal with our Inaugural Game Changer Gala was to get every student the support they need through the funds raised. This may be by catching issues early before they become more significant or by helping students through a crisis and everything in between. We raised over $178,000 at our 2025 Gala to support mental and behavioral health initiatives in Gretna Public Schools.
Complete Wellness
Since 2016, Gretna Public Schools has built a relationship with Complete Wellness to support our students who need additional one-on-one support by providing Licensed Mental Health Practitioners (LMHPs). This program has been growing and evolving. As of August 2024, Gretna Public Schools has an LMHP from Complete Wellness on-site working between our two high schools. This allows students who are struggling the opportunity to see a professional in a one-on-one setting in less than two weeks, even sooner if there is availability.
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
Gretna Public Schools utilizes the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. MTSS is designed to help schools meet the diverse needs of all students. It provides a structured approach to support learning and behavior through multiple levels of intervention.
Here's a simple breakdown of how this works:
Universal Support (Tier 1): This tier includes high-quality instruction and support for all students in the general classroom. Teachers use effective teaching strategies and provide a positive learning environment to ensure every child can succeed. Tier 1 instruction includes an academic curriculum aligned with state standards and character and behavioral lessons to support the whole child.
Targeted Support (Tier 2): Targeted interventions are provided to students who need additional support beyond Tier 1. Student data, such as grades, test scores, attendance, behavior referrals, etc., are reviewed weekly to identify students needing Tier 2 targeted interventions. This may involve small-group instruction or specific strategies to address individual challenges in academics, behavior, and social/emotional skills.
Intensive Support (Tier 3): Some students may require more individualized support. At this tier, interventions are highly personalized, often involving one-on-one assistance or specialized programs to meet unique needs. Tier 2 data is reviewed to determine if students require Tier 3 Interventions.
MTSS aims to ensure that every child receives the right level of support to thrive academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally. Schools strive to help all students achieve their fullest potential by closely monitoring progress and adjusting interventions as needed. If you have questions about how MTSS works at your child's school, please get in touch with their teachers or administrators.
